Fee charged for summer concerts
Now in place is a $5 per person admission fee for the River’s Edge 2024 Summer Series of concerts.
According to the City of Independence newsletter, a mandatory fee is necessary to “help manage rising costs and support general fund programming.” Previously, entrance was by donation.
Children 10 and under are free, however.
Another victim of budgetary constraints, family movie nights are no more, having been eliminated altogether.
The good news is the summer concert lineup was announced: July 12, Whiskey River, Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band; July 19, Jennifer Batten & Fullsteam; July 26, Taken by the Sky, Fleetwood Mac tribute; Aug. 2, Hysteria, Def Leppard tribute; Aug. 9, Best of Both Worlds, Van Halen tribute; and on Aug. 16, Sonora Dinamita (donations only).
Taken by the Sky is the only returning act from last summer.
Concerts are Friday night at the Riverview Park amphitheater in Independence. Opening acts, which have not been announced, begin at 6 p.m.
