Early returns suggest it will be a highly competitive spring for the varsity boys golf teams of the Mid-Willamette Conference.

The Dallas squad held its own against 10 other teams at a league match held Monday at Salem Golf Club.

Corvallis was first with a team round of 333, while Crescent Valley was second (334) Dallas third (342), and Lebanon fourth (348).

“It was a close match for the top four teams,” said Dallas coach Jennie White. “There were just 16 shots between the first- and fourth-place teams.”

Even better, the Dragons were just nine strokes back.

Three Dragons finished among the individual leaders: Tyson Lunde tied for second at 78, while Cody Burbank and Kanon Kinter tied for eighth at 84.

Chase Brown of Corvallis and Charlie Behrens of West Albany tied Lunde, while Ryland Carroll from Albany topped all golfers with an even par 72.

Also in the top 10 were Cole Rivers from Crescent Valley (5th), Ben Boysen and Liam Hubbard from Corvallis (tied for sixth), and Thomas Mendoza, also from Corvallis (10th).

Next up for Dallas is a hosting gig set for Monday, April 1, at Cross Creek Golf Course. Play begins at 11:30 a.m.
