Akria White hopes to surpass last year's success.

“Our goal for Akira will be to get her back to state and play for a top 10 finish, after finishing in the top 25 last year as a freshman,” stated coach Joel Everett of the Central High girls golf team.

White is off to a strong start. She shot 96 for sixth place at the Mid-Willamette Conference tournament, held Monday at Cross Creek Golf Course near Dallas.

She was even better a week earlier, tying for first at Salem Golf Club with a 46 over nine holes.

As of now, White is the only member on the Panthers varsity girls team. But that could change in the coming weeks.

“As a program, we have eight golfers this year, six freshmen and two sophomores,” Everett said. “We are hoping to build up this young group and be able to put a varsity team together by the end of the year.”

Next up is an April 1 conference match at Trysting Tree Golf Club near Corvallis. Golfers tee off beginning at 12:30 p.m.
